Yes, dcraw does not seem to be further deloped. However, there is a potential successor: LibRaw, https://www.libraw.org/ .
There is special image processing software for Astrophotography that uses LibRaw, e.g. PixInsight.

Same here: today Avira, my anti-virus software, reported the discovery of malware "TR/CryptXPACK.Gen3" in the file "pw50.exe".

oh, I am the one to thank you! As I often work with color pictures and monochrome channels simultaneously, this strange behaviour happened frequently. So I will be very happy when it has been fixed.
