request: enhanced mask support for monochome transform

I periodically want to convert an image to monochrome using two different methods, for example, a red filter for the sky and a different filter for the land. I currently create a mask, then invoke the monochrome tool twice using the same mask, but inverted for the 2nd pass.

Some of the tools, for example brightness curve, support using one mask and applying the tool using the mask and the inverted mask.

Would an extension like this be possible for the monochrome tool?

Not a bad idea, however this would be relatively complicated to implement.
