Split processing

I'm a bit late on this, but I'm reading the PDF and trying to understand what split is generally doing. I'm still far from getting it, but can I be helped a bit with the big picture. Splitting images by masking, brightness or hue into zones that are processed separately is used implicitly by other transformations. What's fundamentally different in the new Split transformation?

Yes. I've been reading it, but I still don't get what's the fundamental qualitative or practical or visual difference in treating the boundary between zones in this transformation vs. how it's done in other zone-like transformations.

Would you be able to post or link the full test image on which you tested the Split prototype? Or maybe a complex fragment of it?

The small image from the linked post is not that difficult to split-adjust with the Two-Zone transformation (acceptably to my eye). I haven't tried it yet, but the Color Zones may be a candidate too. I probably don't appreciate the complexities of dealing with boundary artifacts in hi-res, difficult images though.

I could post several test images I have been using to try to get this transformation to work reliably, but as mentioned elsewhere, it is still a work in progress and I have only gotten satisfactory results out of it in certain limited cases. I may get back to it this winter, but I recommend not wasting you time with it until I can get it working better.
