Histogram feature suggestion

Post by tomczak »

I've seen a lot of histograms lately and I was thinking what would make the histograms work even better:

1) PWP is not bad in this department, but it's often v. difficult to detect and interpret the fully blown pixel column on the histogram because it's a thin line (1px wide) and it's hard to see and relate its height to the area of the rest of the histogram. Since blown (and blocked) pixels are of special importance, would it make sens to emphasize them somewhat (e.g. make the 0% and the 100% histogram bins 2 pixel wide or have a numerical display of X% pixels blown/blocked at each end of the scale?).

2) Is is difficult to graphically link the histogram range with the pixels that contributed to it? What I would find useful is e.g. being able to drag the range on a histogram and have PWP highlight/blink the corresponding range of pixels in the input image (or preview). This is kind of reverse of Curves transformation where you can click on the image and display the pixel value on the histogram as a red line (which is even better implemented in AS where holding shift and dragging the mouse, highlights the range of the 'roughness' values below the histogram).

There is a feature in the Curve control that lets you compress the histogram so large values do not force small ones to be lost. Click the Opt button to the right of the curve and select either medium or high compression depending on how much you want to compress the data.

There is also a curve tool in the Mask dialog that lets you select parts of the brightness range (with the histogram visible) and create a mask that shows what parts of the image are in that range.
