Slide Show Viewer fading smoothness

In the Slide Show Viewer (v. 1.0.9) when using slide transition, the fading seems to be set in fairly large steps that result in less than smooth transitions when slides are being changed.

Also, I think related: if the transition is set to none and the show is run, the current slide is displayed and then others follow, which is ok. But with transitions, (say fading to black), when the Run button is hit, it displays the current image briefly but immediately, then fades in the same image followed by others.

It looks like the code for the transition feature is in need of a major overhaul -- I suggest not using it for a while until I have the time to fix it. The irregularity of the transition is partly a performance issue. I have a few ideas how it can be speeded up, at least on a CPU with multiple cores.
