Raw processing problem

Post by hfeio »

I've been having some problems while raw processing my Canon 300D images: in most cases it works fine but in about 5% of the cases the output is much lighter than what I see in the preview. To get an image that looks closer (but not equal) to what I see in the preview I have to pull down the dynamic range black slider to a value between -9.8 and -15.9 depending on the specific image.

My usual raw workflow is to set the color saturation, then set the dynamic range to Full Range and then adjust the Midtones, Shadows and Highlights. I also sharpen the image with sharpen radius 1. And when needed do some noise reduction too.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

What is the make/model of your primary camera?: Panasonic G1
Location: Sydney, Australia

Henrique,

I can't help at all, other than to let you know that you're not on your own. I process rw2 files from a Panasonic G1 and have occasionally noticed the same effect. The output of the RAW transformation a lot lighter than the preview.
I'm seeing it much less that 5% of the time, though, and have not made any effort to track it down as I usually find that going full range with the Levels and Color transform remedies the situation.
