When you create lines by clicking start and end points around the image (the second way of creating lines), sooner or later a starting point you just created jumps somewhere up and left, even far outside of the image. The next click then adds the end point and create a line oriented NNW to SSE. The more lines you create the more frequently this seems to happen.
As regards the first way of creating lines, the pdf Help says:
"Control points are displayed as an overlay on the input image. You can add or modify control points or lines as follows... etc."
I cannot see any such overlay of points. Has anything changed since the pdf version was created? The integrated Help is currently not available as posted elsewhere.
Line and Arrow: jumping start points

Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
Using den's hint I see there are no diferences between the two versions of Help concerning the Line and Arrow Tool .
Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
There are control points at each end of the line segment. If you select curved lines instead of broken lines, you get additional control points for controlling the shape of the curve.
I will look into this further in a day or two when I hopefully finish the conversion from GDI+ to WIC for JPEG and TIFF files.

Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
Well, I see now. I somehow understood the interpretation wrong way. My mistake.
¨
But what is a bit strange is when I got back to the Line and Arrow Tool just now, after a couple of lines (mostly really two of them) PWP stops working and crashes. The settings are at defaults. Restarting PC does not help.
In order to rule out some quirk of my PC, can anyone confirm this?

Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
Yes I can confirm this. One the first attempt I drew three lines with default settings: the second line through the start point off the screen to the upper left corner, and the third line crashed PWP. When I re-opened PWP, control lines did not show up, but the painted lines did, and on the third line PWP crashed. After a restart, I tried curved lines: the first control line was not visible, but I was able to manipulate the curve, but clicking to start the second line caused a crash.
Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
So, after further use, if I click to place initial position , then pause 1-2 seconds, (screen flashes), then click to place second position, I was able to draw a dozen lines with no problems. If I don't wait, and make two clicks in quick motion, then PWP crashes...
Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
I see - currently it does a preview after every change you make (no matter how minor) and apparently if you make another change before the last preview is done it is causing a problem. I was thinking of getting rid of the instant preview which slows things down for large images and only showing the final result on OK or Apply.

Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
This is interesting, because before I posted the issue I also waited a few seconds (up to -5), but it made no difference, and it still does not. At first I even had not encountered the crashes, only the jumping points.
Re: Line and Arrow: jumping start points
Jonathan, I've sent you a screen capture movie of the odd behaviour in the Line and Arrow tool. The preview lines are not visible, except when the tool sliders are moving, or when the preview line selection node is moving. Hard to describe, hence the movie...
