Hi, I don't know when the next version of PWP is due out, but I first came in with a CD version of V3.5 and went up to V4 when it came out and on to V5.
As I seldom use raw I did not go up to V6 or 7 but it is probably nearly time I did.
When writing on Pictures would it be possible to incorporate perspective and rotation.
I think I have added a photo. to show where it would have been useful.

Re: Writing on the picture
It is possible to place perspective or rotated text on a phoo.
There are several ways to do this, but here is the easiest one I can think of:
1) Create an 8-bit black and white black image large enough to hold the text using File/New Image
2) Use Transformation/Text to place white text on the black image (set Text Color to white)
3) Use the Transformation/Geometry/Warp to apply perspective to the text. This image will be used as a mask. You can do rotation later.
4) Color the text if you want it to show up as something other than white. You can use the Color Balance transformation, the Tint transformation or some other method.
5) Use the Composite transformation to apply the colored text to the photo. Set the photo as the input image. Set the colored text image as the Overlay image and also select the black and white text image as the Overlay Amount mask.
Select 1-point alignment and position the alignment point to place the text where you want it. Or use 2-point alignment and you can rotate and scale the text as well as moving it around.

Jerry,
Beside Warp for perspective changes you can also use Fan to give the text a curve, using the same mask method Jonathan described above.
See here for more details:

Re: Writing on the picture
I usually will do...
1) create an 8-bit BW Text image, ie, an image with any text with the approximate/same pixel dimensions as the base image: white letters and a black background... ...this Text image can be its own mask because it is 8-bit BW...
2) Composite Blend where Input = the base image with Amount 100%; Overlay = the Text image and the Overlay Amount Mask = the Text image where white = 100% and black = 0%; Alignment = 2-point [shift/rotate/scale] or 4-point [perspective warp]... ...position Alignment points/guides to preference... ...click Apply
3) Reset the Overlay Amount Mask so that both white and black = 100%... ...click OK. You will now have a new Text image image that when Convert-ed to 8-bit BW can be used as a Drop Shadow mask in step 4) providing the Alignment points/guides were outside the pixel dimensions of the Input base image... ...if the new Text image background is not completely black: use a black Paint brush to make it so... ...this is needed when adjusted Alignment points/guides in step 2) are inside the base image pixel dimensions.
4) add a Drop Shadow to the resulting step 2) image using the 8-bit BW step 3) image as the mask in the Special Effects/Drop Shadow transform... 5) you could also use the resulting 8-bit BW step 3) image as a mask to change the text color to a preference using Composite-Blend where the Overlay is the color of preference...
Just one possibility of many limited only by imagination ... ...I used PWP5 to generate the illustration but the suggested workflow is the same for PWP6 and PWP7...
Have fun...

Re: Writing on the picture
Thank you Den for your reply. It does seem a little easier than Jonathan's, I will give it a try.
I hope this time that the picture is included. Just a passing snap but I thought the dog should have a title above his office.

Re: Writing on the picture
Jerry... you sure he's the boss??? ...and not worried about a buried bone?
The easiest ways are those that are understood and hopefully either JS', Dieter's, or my suggestions will fill in the necessary details.
PWP can be very powerful to create graphic texts... for example, a few more steps to my suggestions above can provide: (1) dual colors; (2) outline; and (3) slight noise (rather than un-natural solid colors) to the added text to make it appear more interesting with hints of floating above the base image... ...for example: If there is further interest on anyone's part, I can generate a tutorial for the illustration.

Re: Writing on the picture
Will try to post something by Friday, 11/21... ...I seem to be having some internet connectivity issues.
Thought that this might be a good workflow to explore as it involves: Fan; Perspective; Dual colors; Outline; bright RGB noise (glitter); and floating above the base image... ...den...

The following are two 24-bit color Text images [black background with colored text] that were developed using a bold Mistral font and successive Drop Shadow transformations with an Invert-ed [white background, sharp edged black text] Mask-Drop Shadow mask and four drop shadow colors: green; red; white; and blue at 100% Saturations and Values... ...followed with added RGB Gaussian noise at Amount 70%... …the Drop Shadow settings were chosen so as to provide a 3D or raised text appearance… Free, no restrictions, full sized Text image versions may be downloaded here [2310x740 pixels, 333KB]:

For a curved Text image, use the Fan transform with a preference Curvature and Background color = black.
The Reference pdf explains creating/using required masks for text outlines and drop shadows when Composit-Blending the suggested Text images to a Base image... Ask if there are questions... ...This is briefer than I intended but Life is intruding on hobby time...

Den, very nice method to use Drop Shadow to create the colours in the text.
