Font Size

Post by Robert Schleif »

I am not finding that the Font Size control has any effect on font size. It seems to affect icon size only. I'd like to increase font size in popup menus and Help, but I don't need icons to be any larger. It would be great if they could be controlled independently.
Wouldn't it be more logical to place the font size control in Preferences rather than have it in File?

Menus and help are controlled by Windows -- the only way I know of to make them larger is to change the system-wide Scale and Layout from the Display settings (right click the desktop and select Display settings). The font size affects the icon size and the size of text in PWP's dialog boxes. It is in a separate dialog box because, unlike preferences, the changes do not take effect until the next session. Originally I planned to have other settings in the dialog box, but never did.

Outside PWP 8, it seems that icon size and font size is generally well balanced. In PWP 8 help and in popup warning windows, the font size is uncomfortably small for me. Possibly the icon size/font size ratio can be changed?
It seems to me that the Composite and Layout transformations are in the same category, but only Composite is listed in the Transformation drop down. Perhaps Layout could be added?

Oh, an additional point. While I see icon size change when I change Font Size, I don't think that the font size is changing.

If you set the font size to 100%, the fonts in PWP dialog boxes are the same size as the standard menu font for the rest of Windows. The same, for example as Microsoft Office, Chrome, and every other program with a menu. If you increase the font size, the icons and text in PWP dialog boxes (button captions, etc.) gets bigger.

This works here - try it again and let me know if there is a problem.

On my system, only icon size changes. Could this be related to the fact that my Windows display settings under Scale and layout are set to "A custom scale factor is set."

Can you post a screen shot of one of the PWP dialog boxes? Attached is what the same dialog box looks like at 100% and 200% here.

Many improvements were made in Windows 10 to support high dpi monitors and scaling of the screen, so if you are using an older version of Windows, this feature may not look the same on your computer.

The size of my dialog box changes appropriately, just like yours.
I have Windows 10 version 1903 build 18362.720
Display resolution is 2560 x 1440
I have taken screen shots at 100 and 200% of a dialog box plus that dialog's help. As they are too large for inclusion here, I will send them as attachments to an email.

It looks like it is working the way it is supposed to. You can't change the size of help text or menu text except by using the Window Display control panel and changing the scaling percentage.
