File New and Drawing

It would be nice if File New created a new image whose default dimensions were those of whatever image was currently selected.
It would also be nice if there were a Draw transformation that used the drawing capabilities of Mask to draw in any color on existing images. Actually, I'm of two minds on these ideas as I also value clean simplicity in a program.

Using Composite or Blend, you can apply a mask to an image as a color overlay by setting the overlay (or blend) image to a solid color.

I have been looking for a good way to get File New to get its properties from another image, but I am leaning toward adding an extra input image you can set as a reference image.
