Also, FWIW, 8.0.29 returned to the old behavior with the Defender warning. But when I ran the fix that I described previously on 8.0.30, it installed without the warnings. I have no idea what's going on with my Windows 10 system.

I think it has more to do with installing twice, once after bypassing the warning so the second time it remembers that you accepted it the first time. It's not just your system, it does it here too when I download the file and run it from the Downloads folder, but not when I run the same file from a different folder.

jsachs,

For old time's sake!

Since version 8.0.30 or so I have been getting the Windows Defender warnings discussed in this old thread. As this has been only a mild irritation I have just accepted it as something quirky in my system. But today, when I installed 8.0.46 I did not get the Defender warning.

Is it possible that you have made some change that caused this change in behavior or is this perhaps more quirkiness?!!
