Composite Problems

Post by myspot »

I am running into a problem with the Composite function. No crash, just it looks like the second image is being treated like a BW image with each RGB pixel stretched into adjacent pixel location.

The two example images are available here...

Also, where did the noise reduction function from V7 go?

The noise reduction function was a part of the dcraw-based raw image processing package which was removed from PWP 8.

I can't really tell much from the images - are these the ones you were compositing? What were Operation and Alignment set to?

Yes - those were the two images I was compositing together, NOT the result. The alignment is "None" and pretty much any operation. Here is a screen shot...

Strange, it works fine here with the same version, same files and same settings.

What are you color management settings?

I am a long time PWP user. Otherwise, PWP8 is a stone stock install and I just started using it. I didn't look if I had a color profile embedded in those files. Otherwise, the only thing set in color management is my color profile for my monitor. FYI - Just tried it on another computer and have the same issue...

Please take a screen shot of your color management settings - I need to duplicate them here.

Or, use Script/Save Workspace Script with Names to save a script file of your workspace. This will include all the CM settings and all the settings for Composite. You can then post the contents of the script file or email it to me (jsachs@dl-c.com).

Email sent. By the way, I "inserted" a 'convert' (to 24 bit) before the composite and it worked as expected. It is not happy with 48 bit...

Got the email, thanks. I am now seeing the problem here, so it looks like some interaction between the color management settings and 48-bit color. There is code used in Composite and elsewhere that converts images to a compatible color space before compositing them, so that's probably where the problem is.

Fixed for next release - the problem only showed up with color management disabled which is not a configuration I test a lot.
