If I save an output as a final image, there is no information that it was saved into a file. Since the thumbnail numbers are not permanent and change each time a script is loaded, it is not possible to use them for later identification with any saved image.
Is there any plan to distinguish saved outputs in the tree somehow?
Manual overwriting of the caption is bad because the name of the transformation step is useful and the file name would not fit into the short thumbnail title bar anyway.
A simple solution could be that if an image was saved, its name with the full path would be automatically saved into the image info. No linkage or synchronization would be necessary. If the saved image was later deleted from its directory, the name in the Image Info would still be there and kept the information. If the image was saved later again under a different name, the old name and the path would be overwriten.
Saved image information. For future consideration.

Perhaps a "reader tool" for a saved 'embedded script' option-ed tiff file open in the Browser... ...even if the Browser thumbnail names and/or image numbers change, the embedded script provides the transform used: Might also be an on the fly 'power user' script editor tool; program crashes notwithstanding. ;-)

David - I like your idea and it's relatively easy to implement.

The field "Created" added to the Image Info is very useful. It is derived from the top open file image and/but is inherited by all its outputs even when they are saved. This way the outputs created and saved today will have their create date older maybe even years older.
Also, top images not opened from files but created by transformations like Texture have no inherited create date, and consequently they outputs have no create date when they are saved into a file.
Would it be possible to update also the create date in the Image info whenever an output is saved to a file, or even better, also whenever an output is created (not necessarily edited) by a transformation?
This would help to tell apart more final versions of the same image. They would differ not only in names but also in create dates. En easy way to tell which one was the latest.

Re: Saved image information. For future consideration.
I reworked Image Info for the next release to display both the creation time and date of the file from which the image was derived and also the time and date the image was saved since the original image was opened. Previously only the creation time was displayed and the order of the fields made it confusing.
