Paint Tool - mouse trails

Open the paint tool, and at default settings, with the image at "zoom to fit", the initial sliding of the mouse (without any clicking) over the image leave trails. Increasing the radius, or switching to 1:1 view, the trails stop.

I experience something similar with the mask Paint tool. Dragging the brush leaves a trail of overlay circles. Once the mouse button is released the trail is replaced with color.
Zooming makes no difference.

This is the way it is intended to work - it avoids performance bottlenecks updating the screen in real time and defers the recalc until the end of the stroke updated. In would be nice to fix this eventually however.
