antialias vs. blur

Does antialias checkbox in posterize correspond to any available blur method and if so, to about what settings considering resolution? Or is there something different behind it?

It is not the same a blurring - it upsamples the input image using bilinear interpolation, posterizes the resampled image, and then downsamples the result.
