After a post by tomczak in the Tips forum, I went to experiment with Composite | Low Pass.
To force a crash, open an image, Composite it with itself, select Low Pass mode, and turn on Auto Preview. You might need to increase the blur radius.
TIF files of around 5 to 10 MB did not crash. The auto preview begins with a solid black top half. Since I do not understand Low Pass, I do not know if that is a bug. TIF files of 33 MB and more all crashed. I did not locate the boundary between the two behaviors.
Also, in the online manual I could not find where it documents and explains the Low Pass and High Pass modes of Composite.
PWP 64 v. 7.0.10 running with four cores, four threads, and 8 MB of swap file space available.
