Recovery of deleted image

Post by Marpel »

I was working on an image which I had put through a number of composition transformations. The resultant image was titled with the initial image name, preceded by "Untitled __" (can't recall the untitled number, hence the __), as I had not saved the changes under a new name.

I mistakenly deleted the resultant image instead of the untitled image from one step back, and when asked to confirm, confirmed the deletion, so it went to the Trash. I then realized my error.

I immediately opened the Trash and restored the only file that was titled with the initial image name. I presumed this was the deleted file as I had not deleted any other image, although I do not recall seeing any reference to "Untitled __".

However, I could not locate the restored image, either in the workspace of PWP or in the folder that was open in the PWP Image Browser, or anywhere else for that matter.

If an image is not in the Browser directory yet, because it had not been saved, and is only open in the workspace when deleted, can the image be restored from the Trash? If not, what is sent to the Trash? If so, where is the image restored to?

Thanks,

An image that is deleted from the workspace may be backed-up in the temp folder. I say may be because the reason for backing up images is to make them available in the history display. If they are not needed in the history display they may deleted or not saved. However in any case this is only true while a session is active -- temp images are permanently deleted when you exit Picture Window. Picture Window does not use the recycle bin.

In File/Preferences the Confirm on Close option lets you set when warnings are issued when you delete an unsaved image. Generally you should set this either to "Confirm all unsaved images" (safest) or "Confirm last image in series only".
