Printer Profile as working profile?

Here is a silly question on colour management (silly, because I haven't heard of anyone doing it - so there is probably a reason):

What would be a disadvantage of editing an image in the Printer colour space rather than editing it in some standard working space and then converting to the printer space when done (other than the printer space being specific to a particular printer and changing with each calibration)? But let's assume that we only use one particular printer and it's calibration doesn't change during the project.

You cannot use a printer profile as a working color space.
