Custom album templates; where are they?
The manual says that album templates are kept in a text file called PWTemplates in the folder containing the executable. My templates seem not to be there. They are being saved somewhere as they appear when I want to use them to create album pages.
What is particularly tiresome is that every time I install updates, I lose my templates and have to spend ages recreating them.
I am running PW Pro 5.0.1.8 - had to use system restore to recover my templates from 5.0.1.9. System is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.
Where are they being saved? How can I stop them being lost during updates?

The custom templates are also safed in the PWTemplates.txt file.
The best way to keep them during Update is to copy the files to a different folder before updating, and then copy thm back to the executables folder.

The templates are stored in the PWTemplates.txt file.
On 32 bit machines the default path is
Program Files\Digital Light & Color\Picture Window Pro 5.0
On 64 bit machines the default path is
Program Files (x86)\Digital Light & Color\Picture Window Pro 5.0
I will look into the instlallation overwrite issue -- there should be a way to prevent that from happening.

Re: Custom album templates; where are they?
That is where I am looking. The template names there seem to bear no relation to the default album template names and my custom ones are certainly not there.
They do appear in the drop down menu and so must be being stored somewhere. I would like to be able to back them up and be able to restore them to where ever they are when I install upgrades.
Thanks for your help.

Try searching for the PWTemplates.txt file using the Windows Explorer search feature. The file only contains the custom templates. The default templates are defined in the pw50 executable itself.

Re: Custom album templates; where are they?
Kiril,
Search for PWTemplates.txt finds loads of stuff in Windows old (XP files saved in the upgrade), but I do not seem to be able to pin down anything that is not in Windows old. Windows old should be just be an archive/backup. Maybe PW is still seeing Windows old as a live system and putting the templates there somewhere.

Jon,
Check to see where your PWP shortcut is pointing. You are probably running PWP from Windows.old as well. If you need further help, please e-mail me at support@dl-c.com, with details of what you have done and what problem you are experiencing.

Right click on the shortcut you start PWP with, either in the Startmenue or on the Desktop.
You should get the Context Menue, then (left) click Properties and you shoulc get a window where is, among other details, is shown where the shortcut points to, means the folder and name of the file it is starting.
Should be something like "C:\Program Files\Digital Light & Color\Picture Window Pro 5.0\PW50.exe
Exactly in this folder should also be the PWTemplates.txt file.
As far i know Windows 7 is very restrictive with writing permissions in the \Program files\ folder so it can be that it is a writing permission problem, too, but others can write for sure more about this, I still run XP here.

Re: Custom album templates; where are they?
My system is Window 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I've done a search for PWTemplates.txt (using Void Tools rather wonderful Everything) and found these two locations for PWTemplates.txt
C:\Program Files (x86)\Digital Light & Color\Picture Window Pro 5.0
C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Digital Light & Color\Picture Window Pro 5.0
Mike.

Re: Custom album templates; where are they?
Thanks Mike, that's brilliant. They are in C:\Users\Jonathan\AppData\local ....etc. So I can back them up before and restore them after updates.
I think that Dieter's point about writing permissions may be the cause here.
Kiril, it could be useful to mention this second location in the manual next time you revisit it.
Thanks to all.
Jonathan.
