I've been trying different ways of creating a mask that only preserves the core clematis flower. I've had varying degrees of success vs effort involved, so I was wondering if anyone had some neat tricks or transformations that I'm not familiar with. A sample image is attached.
Thanks in advance for any insights or tips!

Incidentally, if you're near Portland Or, the Rogerson Clematis Garden has an amazing variety - AND it's free!

Have you tried the flood tool in Masks ?
With flood mask creation, you can identify colors along a line.
Refer to help documents.
There is also a paint tool with "similar pixels" modes.

Re: Masking technique sugestions???
I was able to get an imperfect but possibly useful mask.
I built the mask in two stages -- first using the Hue Saturation mask tool and setting a high brightness and weight on the white control point in the center and adding a few other control points with 0 brightness to remove the orange, yellow and green parts.
Then I used a Brightness Curve mask tool in Subtract mode to remove the darker parts of the previous mask.

I was pleased to see the Hue Saturation tool in the use as I have never quite understood when it should/could be used.
Would the Hue-Saturation Histogram have a use in this sort of situation?

I tried that first but got slightly better results with Hue Saturation.

Thanks for the responses - very helpful and it's great to get some deeper insight into how to use the tools.!

For the next release, I added extra controls to the Hue Saturation mask tool so you can create the mask in a single step instead of having to apply a Brightness Curve mask tool after the Hue Saturation tool.

Re: Masking technique sugestions???
J. I have tried this technique but am not sure I am doing it right.
When I open the Color Wheel I get the six circles.
What I have been doing is click on my preview image in spots that seem to have the color I want to mask.
Each time I do that I get a square. When I click on a nearby point in the image I get a new square and the previous square goes round.
Am I supposed to do a normal click or another type of click?
I guess that to finish I need to turn the circle at the centre back to a square.
This is where I get stuck as the Help refers to a filled square and mine don't seem to fill.
Your guidance please.

Re: Masking technique sugestions???
Each control point has a Weight and Brightness slider. The current control point is displayed with a square and its weight and brightness settings are displayed in the sliders.
To include a color in the mask, set its control point's Brightness to a high value. To include more colors around the control point, increase the Weight. To exclude a color, set its control point's Brightness to zero.
