RAW Dialog Magnification issues

Post by tomczak »

I'm sure that there are technical reasons behind it, but I'll ask anyway:

1) when the RAW dialog is first opened, its magnification is such that it fits into the preview window. In my case, 1:6 is typically a bit too large and the sliders result. Would it make sense to add 'fit to preview' (just like the initial fit) in addition to other zoom options.

2) With higher magnifications, every time the image is shifted, the whole preview is recalculated, or so it seems. Is there a way of optimizing it so that it takes less time if only part of the image is displayed?

More magnification options are certainly possible.

The entire image has to be recalculated because the histograms must be recalculated from the full image. It would otherwise be inaccurate.

I know nothing about how it works, but naively, even if the magnified preview moves, but no other RAW preview settings are changed, the histogram for the whole preview image would stay the same? I suspect it's more complex than that, anyway...
