In 8.0.426,
I opened a series of tif files that I wanted to convert to jpg.
The script detected errors in the file export step "folder not specified".
I attempted to close the transform and to terminate the batch process.
I could not resume editing after terminating the batch process.
After batch termination, it was not possible to close the batch message panel, or to perform any other action.
I ended up terminating the PWP application using the Windows task manager.

Re: terminating batch process - cannot close batch window
It turns out the batch progress dialog box was simply covering up the error message dialog box (No folder specified). The error message box is modal so until you click its OK button, execution cannot proceed. Technically, you should not be able to click the terminate batch button while a modal dialog box is displayed, but that would make it difficult or impossible to terminate the batch process in some cases if there was an error. To fix this for the next release, I changed the initial location of the batch progress dialog box so it does not cover up the error message dialog box.
