Augmented Fill

Post by Robert Schleif »

It seems like a useful transformation would be the combination of Fill plus Clone with linked cursors. That is, instead of filling with a fixed color, one could fill from a chosen area from the same or other image. Yes, the same can be accomplished with a mask generated with flood fill and linked cloning with the new mask, but the proposed transformation feels more direct.

I think I understand what you are proposing -- this would probably be much easier to implement as an option within the Clone tool which already incorporates the rather complicated machinery to deal with a variable number of input images (potentially one for each stroke). Can you give me an example of how you would find it useful?

On further thought, I'm less hopeful that the transformation would be of general use. My two uses would be in helping to remove some artifacts in focus stacking and in helping to clone out halos (from images for large prints).
