Brightening: Brightening Curve vs Color Curve

Is there a qualitative difference between the two following brightening techniques, or are they identical 'under the hood'?

1. Choose Brightness Curve. Select HSV. Adjust curve.

2. Choose Color Curves. Select HSV. Select V. Adjust curve.

They are identical
