An update is available to Version 8.0.108 (11-Jun-2020)
The changes (taken from the update log) are:
Added support for reading transparent PNG files. The alpha channel becomes a mask for the File Open in the image browser and can be selected as from the Amount menu.

It's on my list to add this, although transparent TIFFs are less common.

For the next release, I have added support for 32-bit and 64-bit RGB TIFF files that include an alpha channel.
Does anyone have sample grayscale TIFF files with alpha channels? Preferably both 8- and 16-bit?
