I installed .443, had the missing Exiftool problem; uninstalled PWP via Control Panel, installed again (bit of a pain to re-select the associated filetypes). Then it worked.
Windows 10.

Re: Printing issue : Print transformation inserted
When I do Ctrl-P, a Windows printer dialog pops up. It pops up quickly, so you might want to look into your connection between PC and printer. I must remember to click on the little Preferences button, which launches the printer dialog for my Epson P800, where I set sheet size, color management mode...

Re: Finding Old Files
Not knowing Python, I assume a script can invoke a program. If you have a program that generates a thumbnail .jpg from a .tif, then you can presumably write a script that solves your problem.
You might seach generate thumbnail from tif in order to find such a program.

Useful Equalize feature?
DxO PhotoLab has a smart lighting dialog. It's a good idea, although the implementation is not the best, in my opinion. With this in mind, one can imagine a (helpful?) feature for Equalize. Let the user draw a rectangle on the image. The equalization is then performed for the entire image (or for th...

Re: Faster Bilateral Sharpening
Bilateral Sharpen is my preferred method of adding local contrast or what DxO PhotoLab calls microcontrast. I usually apply after RL deconvolution sharpening at the raw stage (Raw Therapee) and sometimes a bit of Advanced Sharpening with a radius just under or equal to 1. Screen captures show my def...

Re: Recent discovery -- maybe everyone else already knows this trick
For comparison, this is the result of using Raw Therapee's Chromaticity-by-Lightness curve to raise chromaticity near the high end, followed by its Lab-L curve to darken the high end. (Obviously, I worked on the Original Image and left the label. I had RT output an sRGB image.)

Re: Strange things happen to EXIF
Tests to get to the problem:
Look at the Exif data for the image in PWP.
Save a .tif from PWP and look at its Exif data.

Re: DxO PureRAW Released
The advertising page for the product and the photos there imply that the program applies the same tone curve and saturation settings as DxO PhotoLab. Even the latter's "no correction" preset seems to do stuff. If you like that style, great. If you want to start with less of it, Raw Therape...

Re: Open Canon CR2 files?
...extracting the embedded preview JPG from RAW as an option could be useful. Some (most?) viewer programs do that when they presume to "open" a raw file, FastStone, for example. Then save the image as a .jpg or .tif or whatever. (In the case of FastStone, see Settings | Raw for various o...
