Please use this thread to post tips on using the Picture Window user interface - for example sliders, amount controls, or the color picker.

This one has appeared previously in the forum but it bears repeating: to see a before/after view in any Transformation, shift-click on the amount square in the Transformation window. When the mouse button is pressed, Amount=0, which is the “before” view. Release the mouse button to see the “after” view.

This one is well documented in the manual, but I found it to be very useful, so it bears repeating here: It is possible to enter an arithmetic expression into a numeric field. For example, it is possible to resize an image a 10% multiplying its length by 1.1 (the result is rounded to the closest integer value). For writing an arithmetic expression the usual operators (+,-,*,/) can be used.

BEFORE/AFTER VIEWS IN ADVANCED SHARPEN

Before/After/Difference buttons will display changes for a particular AS step. Shift-clicking on the Amount square will show the original image.

e.g. Being in Sharpen panel after completing Noise Reduction step, the Before button will show the unsharpened, but already noise-reduced image; shift-Amount will go back to the original image before noise reduction was applied.

I have a question on image quality upon opening an image. My images come on the screen with about 80 pixels per image. I have gone through preferences to change this but have been unable.
Please guide me to where I can set a standard of at least 150dpi upon opening of images.

Thanks

You can set default resolution (dpi) in File/Preferences.

However dpi does NOT affect image quality. Quality depends on the total number of pixels in your image, which is not affected by dpi.
