i found this site http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/2008/archives/1094 and tried to simulate the steps with pwp. In PS3 the steps are # Recovery = 100 # Fill Light = 100 # Blacks = Drag this slider to the right until photo looks balanced again, because setting the Fill Light at 100 will wash the photo out big time. In our example, I dragged it to 24 # Contrast = 100 # Clarity = 100 # Vibrance = 100 # Saturation = -81 In PWP i used Dens procedures to simulate recovery and fill light Blacks.. PWP-> Brightness - preserve white (don`t know..but the picture looks a little bit similar now) Contrast... i used the Local Contrast Enhancement method for the next 2 steps, i was unable to found similar techniques in pwp quote from adobe: Clarity Adds depth to an image by increasing local contrast. This setting is similar to a large-radius unsharp mask. When using this setting, it is best to zoom in to 100% or greater. To maximize the effect, increase the setting until you see halos near the edge details of the image and then reduce the setting slightly. Vibrance Adjusts the saturation so that clipping is minimized as colors approach full saturation, changing the saturation of all lower-saturated colors with less effect on the higher-saturated colors. Vibrance also prevents skin tones from becoming oversaturated. clarity seems to be the same step as the local contrast enhancment step in pwp. Is it possible to simulate the techniques in pwp? any ideas? thx

Mathias... I am not sure if there are direct PWP equivalents for: Clarity: perhaps various Local Contrast Enhancement techniques [USM or HiPass] and Vibrance: perhaps HSV,S or HSL,S Smooth curves similar to: [0,0], [0,10], [50,35], [100,98]... ...but the "Gritty Effect" is similar to the "Lazlo Effect" and skin smoothing can be accomplished with the 'Glow Effect' Using: (1) a modified 'Lazlo Effect'; (2) then create a 'Glow Effect' image version of the 'Lazlo' image; (3) 'one to one' clone 'Glow Effect' skin areas into the 'Lazlo' image; (4) Subtractive Filter the cloned 'Lazlo' image with itself with a mask to protect 0->30% tones with a Exposure-Compensation around 1.35 to HighKey skin tones; (4) de-saturate the resulting image mid-saturations and high-saturations; and (5) used various Misc Retouching Tools as needed and preferenced produced: Not having been interested in the metalic skin tones/color that I believe can be produced by the 'LucasArt' PS plugin... I have not investigated or experimented to achieve this effect in PWP.
