PWP is a Windows program - to run it on a Mac you need to use a Windows emulator such as Parallels.

It should work - on OS X Mavericks you have to install the X-Sytem from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/ before you can use the PWP 6 - "build" for OSX.
And don't be impatient with the installation of the X-System - it lasts some minutes!

Thinking of getting a Mac Mini with an M4 chip. Wondering if anyone has successfully used PW8 on that kind of machine using Parallels and Windows 11, and how is the performance. Tnx

I tried running PWP under Parallels on an Intel Mac a few years ago and except for a few very minor problems it worked OK and was quite usable. A new version of Parallels for the M4 is currently available -- it looks like you can try it for free and see if it works. I believe it works by running an ARM-based version of Windows which in turn includes an Intel emulator, so there are a couple of levels of emulation going on. If you do give it a try, please report back as I have had some other inquiries about this. I may get a chance to try it myself fairly soon as well.

As an experiment I tried downloading the 30-day free trial of Parallels 20 on an M2 Powerbook. After a few glitches, I got it to install Parallels and Windows 11 for ARM, but what they don't tell you is that you then need to purchase a Windows 11 license for $199 (over and above the $99/yr Parallel subscription fee) before you can activate your copy of Windows. I gave up at that point since it was no longer just a question of satisfying my curiosity.

Have you considered Wine for Mac OS ?

Item 4 in https://machow2.com/best-way-run-windows-mac/

I do not have any experience with Wine, but I know several Mac users who might be interested in PWP on Mac.

Installing Wine on a Mac seems to require some technical expertise. There is however a product called Crossover (https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover) that claims to automate most of the installation and which has a free 2-week trial. I will try to get this to work myself over the next few weeks and report back as this sounds like a possible solution.

They already list PWP as compatible with Crossover on their web site, but I would like to confirm this for myself.

I tried installing the free trial version of CrossOver on an Intel iMac and then installing PWP. Without performing exhaustive testing, It seemed to run, including being able to access the help file. Performance was generally snappy.

Unless I'm missing something, the File Open dialog box seems to always display files using the Details view, so no thumbnail view. Supposedly Wine can display thumbnails, at least for some image types, but I don't see an option the switch views.

I will have access to an ARM-based MacBook Pro to test on next week.
