Some time back in reply to a query about dark prints, a forthcoming version 5 feature was said to help with this.

Now that version 5 is out and I have a dark print I would like to know what is the best way to deal with this in version 5.

PWP 5.0 has a new feature called Monitor Curves which goes beyond printer profiles in adjusting printer output. Basically, the usual problem is that a print that looks good under gallery illumination will look too dark when viewed under normal indoor lighting. Monitor curves helps you take viewing conditions into account.

Monitor curves are discussed in the Color Management White Paper: http://www.dl-c.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=58 (See the Table of Contents for Monitor Curves).

There is a also a previous thread you might find useful: http://www.dl-c.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=58

The link to the Color Management white paper should be http://ftp2.bmtmicro.com/dlc/Color_Management.pdf, See the table of contents for Monitor Curves.

Thanks Kiril.

I will print the gray wedge target and experiment with monitor curves.

My image is supposed to be dark and moody. However it came out a little too dark, especially for display in a not too bright room.

I can't find the Gray Wedge 15 file on my system or in the download area. I see that someone else asked where to find it, but the answer given didn't make sense to me:

The grey wedge file is right below the Color Management paper here: http://dl-c.com/content/view/34/55/

Got it and prepared a monitor curve adjustment.

The difference in file name between the help file and the Q13 file kept me looking for something else.

Regarding the Gray Wedge -- why not make your own?

File/New with the desired dimensions. Apply a gradient

Transformation/Special Effects/Posterize. Set the desired number of steps and hit Auto Palette.

That's neat! Not wishing to hijack the thread, but how do you get patches of equal size? When I try it the end ones are about half the width of the others.

This method does not make the darkest patch pure black or the lightest patch pure white. Using the file is the recommended method.
