Custom Brush Textures

You can alter a brush's texture by creating a mask for the current transformation containing a black and white image defining the desired texture.

For example, you can use the Texture transformation to create a random texture image of the same dimensions as the input image and then set this as the mask for the current transformation. This will cause the pixels you apply to the output image to be more of less transparent, according to the texture image.

You can also create textures by starting with a seamless texture tile (a number of these are included with Picture Window in the Frames and Tiles folder) and using the Size to Fit transformation (with the Tile method) to repeat the tile as necessary to match the input image size.

To create the strongest effect, the texture image should have a full range of brightness levels. You can achieve this using the Autorange transformation or the Equalize transformation. Or, you can produce a more subtle effect by scaling back the dynamic range of the texture mask.
