As far I remember it worked in previous versions, but in 5.0.1.9 Window/Count Colors... is grayed out for 48 and 16 bit images.
Works fine for 24 and 8 bit images.

I found the same thing this morning (in attempting to reproduce the suggestion in the other posting).

You're right - I believe we will be reinstating this command (with a warning that it can take a very long time and use a lot of memory for large images) in the next maintenance release.
