PWP intermittent BSOD on transformation close

I'm using PWP 8.0.321 on Windows 10 Home 21H2.
For the past couple of weeks I've been getting the dreaded Windows BSOD occasionally, about once per PWP session, with Stop code "System thread exception not handled" from Ntfs.sys. This happens intermittently when I close some transformation, such as warp, crop or brightness curve; I hit OK and then the blue screen appears. Sometimes also with image file save.
I assume this has nothing to do with PWP itself and more with my six-year-old Dell XPS. But as PWP is probably using the system more intensely than any other program I'm using, I was wondering if anyone had any idea what could be triggering this. All the fixes I've found via Google assume the problem is happening at system boot time (and it has to do with obsolete drivers), but it never happens there, only when I'm using PWP, and only once in a while.
Would be grateful for any ideas.
Thanks, Bob
