Camera sensor dust spots chasing

I'm trying to display dust specs on the camera sensor before and after cleaning. One good tutorial that I found is: https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutor ... eaning.htm

To see the dust specs, I increased the f-stop to the maximum, added +2 exposure compensation, defocused the lens, and took pictures of the PWP white screen. Then, I stretched the contrast of the resulting JPGs to see them better.

The problem is that while it may have increased the contrast of the specs, it also predictably banded the white image, which kind of defeats the purpose. I tried to tame it a bit by stretching the contrast less and/or reducing the Amount.

Is there a better procedure to expose the dust specs and see them better?

A few tips:

1) Using a normal or telephoto lens will reduce the vignetting and make it easier to enhance the dust.

2) Use Autorange to enhance the contrast.

3) High Pass with a large radius will remove the vignette without affecting the dust.

I don't bother with the +2 exposure compensation.
