An update is available to Version 8.0.143 (8-Sep-2020)

A couple a cosmetic changes:

Changed the background of the image area caption to match the image border color. Changes to the image border color are also now reflected in the image browser thumbnails.

Added a setting to File Preferences to set the workspace background color. This controls the color of the menu bar, the background behind the main tool bars, and the background of the image browser. The main menu is no longer implemented as a standard Windows menu in order that its background and text colors can be changed – the differences are relatively minor but it does behave slightly differently in some cases. Also, the font and text of the main menu gets larger or smaller as you change Picture Window’s Font setting. The image border color still controls the background color of the image areas independently from the workspace color. Setting both the image border and workspace colors to black creates a dark theme similar to other image editing software.

Thank you very much for this changes, it really is less destruction on the eyes now with better concentration on the colors of the picture.
