An update is available to Version 8.0.132 (14-Aug-2020)

The changes (taken from the update log) are:

Composite: overlaying an image with itself now displays alignment points the same way as when overlaying with a different image.

Fixed problem with crash recovery sometimes restoring the wrong workspace file.

Brightness: fixed problem causing crash in some cases when run from a script.

The crash recovery looks good from what I looked at. I ended the PWP task from Task Manager at a few states and got an expected autosave file load response in the cases I checked.

I also went back and checked a number of other early 2020 workspaces. The all seemed to load fine in the lastest rev.
