Gradients

Would it make sense for the gradient transformation and the gradient tool in making a mask more similar in operation to one another? Possibly the following changes would make their operation more similar? In the gradient transformation, the vertical and horizontal types do not seem needed as what is called "linear" makes gradients at any angle. Maybe an Apply box added to the gradient transformation would make it more similar to the gradient tool in making a mask. In making a mask, multiple gradients can be superimposed, but in the gradient transformation this does not seem possible. In the gradient transformation, addition of more points in the gradient that is displayed in the transformation window is mirrored with additional points and guidelines on the image, and movement of one is mirrored by movement of the other, but this does not seem to happen with the gradient tool in making a mask.
