Is there any possibility that the neutral gray that replaces the purple fringe could be adjusted to any color?

Why do you want to substitute a different color? Maybe selective color correction would do what you want?

I've been trying to remove purple fringes around leaves amidst branches whose color is close to the gray that is put in by purple fringe. I can't easily use color selective or color remap to provide green edges to the leaves without also turning the branches green.

My suggestion is to use Selective Color Correction to change the purple to green.

I did some experiments with setting a replacement color, but it did not work very well for trees and foliage. It worked fine for the leaves but gave the branches a green edge.

I think a smarter algorithm that determines the average of the darkest colors in the neighborhood of pixels being replaced would work better.

OK. Thank you for trying. If you return to this problem, it would be nice if the solution could also address the following problem. In shooting night time scenes, red lights often get blown, and their centers are white or orange. Something analogous to purple fringe removal might allow automatic repair of the problem.
