Do I remember correctly that one was able to search the embedded program Help Index? .

If you click the black triangle you are almost pointing to, it will expand the index column.

Clicking on the triangle does not work for me.

Clicking the Hide button under the arrow head does 'hide' the triangle and verticals, leaving only the main text dialog.

Clicking the now available Show button, brings back the triangle with narrow verticals.

Mousing to the left side window edge results with a double arrow head for click-hold-drag that will widen the overall window but does not expand the index/search area...

Font Size is set to 107.5%. Resetting this to 100% did not change the observations listed above.

I do not seem to have the ability to increase the width of the Index/Search area of the Show Help Window to make entries and selections.

You should be able to drag the separator between the index and the help text to widen the index area. At least that's how it works here.

If this "internal" vertical is relocated, is its location remembered for future sessions and msi installs?

I believe it is remembered between sessions along with the size and position of the help window.

My guess is that you accidentally dragged to separator the last time you viewed help.
