Keyboard shortcut for Slider Control

Sometimes I'd like to keep looking at the image and see the slight changes as a Slider Control is adjusted with a mouse. I can't figure out a way of doing it with e.g. left/right arrows or some other keyboard keys when the slider is in focus.
I'm not sure how easy (or more likely difficult) it is to implement something like this, but I would find it useful to be able to adjust sliders with some keyboard combination - using the mouse if fine most of the time, but I have to move my eyes from the image to the slider to see what I'm doing, and by doing it I often miss the mark (e.g. when trying to find the real gamma of the monitor when using the new Gamma 2.2 test image, and there are some other cases).

Sliders never have focus unfortunately, so there is no way to direct keystrokes to a particular slider in a dialog box.
If you hold down the Shift key, sliders adjust by 10X smaller increments if that's any help.

Ok, thanks.
I'll try one more idea then: to move a slider (with or without Shift), the mouse has to hold it and drag it. If I click on the slider scale on either side of the slider, the slider moves to the point I clicked on.
Would it be possible to have an option (e.g. slider with Ctrl or such) that would make a slider to move just a little in the direction of the mouse click? This way I wouldn't have to really look at the slider and keep clicking while looking at the preview.

That could work.

I may be pushing my luck, but would it be possible for the new Ctrl-click slider behaviour to rub off on the Brightness Slider in the Colour Picker as well?
One of the reasons I'm asking is that when I was trying to use Checkerboard to create Black Point and White Saturation test images, it is fairly difficult to adjust the brightness of one of the colour patches by a small amount (e.g. one pixel value). It could be done manually, by typing in the numbers, but since nominally a checkerboard can produce a colour image, I need to change 3 values in the Colour Picker.
