Tint Transform

I use the Tint Transform quite regularly but usually place points along the Tint scale in a sort of general/imprecise way.
However, I am a bit unsure on how to place points along the scale, as they directly correlate to a tone in a particular image. Specifically, how to accurately identify where along the scale to place a point for an identified tone in the image.
Is there a method (and if not, should there be), similar to the Color Curves, where one could (shift) click in the image and that identified tone would be mirrored on the scale? Or am I missing something that makes this impractical?
