New Picture Window Pro Update

Picture Window Pro v 7.0.13 is now available. This is a bigger update than usual. It features three important enhancements:

Halo Reduction in Sharpen

Halos are one the principle artifacts in sharpening and often reduce the amount of sharpening possible. This release introduces a new Halo-limiting control which allows you to control light and dark halos. The control has been incorporated into the Sharpen, Advanced Sharpen and Raw Sharpen transformation. Thanks to Maciej Tomczak and Den for doing the ground work suggesting this feature.

Drag and Drop Launching of Workflows

You can now launch a workflow directly from the desktop by dragging and dropping image files on a workflow shortcut. This action starts Picture Window, loads a particular workflow and populates with the dropped images. The workflow is then ready to run.

To get you started, this release installs a workflow shortcut for copying images from your camera's SD card to your Picture folder. The workflow is configured to automatically sort the images into folders by year and month. However, it can be easily revised to copy images into any folder you choose. To run this workflow, simply insert your SD card and drag the card's DCIM folder onto the shortcut. (It does not start copying automatically -- you will have an opportunity to inspect the workflow and revise it before execution.)

Of course, you can also create additional shortcuts to launch workflows of your choosing. The process is described in the manual in the Workflow chapter.

Raw Support for Fuji X-Trans Cameras

The Raw Converter now supports this sensor. As usual, the raw converter has also been updated to include recently released camera models.

The update also includes other small features and bug fixes. See http://www.dl-c.com/update70.html for details.

The new release can be downloaded here: http://dl-c.com/content/view/23/54/ The update is free to PWP 7 registered users.
The Picture Window manual and the Sharpen whitepapers have also been revised, so you should also install the documentation update.

Not sure the Fuji XT-1 is supported. The preview in the RAW dialog is green. In my experience, when the preview looks odd it usually means a color profile is missing and/or that the camera is not supported. What am I missing? On 7.0.13 btw...

I can confirm that the colors are not correct on the Fuji X-T1. Other Fuji X-Trans cameras work correctly, so this is not due to the demosaicing of the X-Trans sensor. I will have to investigate further to determine the cause of the problem.

The following change from PWP 7.0.11 (15 Aug 2013) seemes not to be implemented in 7.0.13
- Drag and drop into the workflow window accepts mixed folder lists, such as from the Windows file search function.

As far as I can see, the feature works properly. In my test, I searched on a name that appears frequently in my image filenames. I then dragged a selection of the items the search came up with. The selection included whole folders as well as individual images from different folders. All displayed properly in the workflow window.

Incidentally, at one point I dragged a thumb drive unto a workflow window, thinking that it contained mostly text files with perhaps just a few images. I had forgotten about a few folders I had copied to the drive -- as it turned out there were 2800 images on the drive in several unconnected folder subtrees. It naturally took a little while to generate so many thumbnails, but all 2800 thumbnails were correctly displayed. In a future release, I may add better indication of progress when so many images are involved.

Hello Kiril,

Sorry, not true...it seems that Fuji X-E2 and X100s don't work either; at least, in my testing.

The problem with the Readout tool on Preview windows is that it is supposed to be illegal to use tools on preview windows but for some reason it was trying anyway. The next maintenance release will give an error in this case.

Alan,

My test of the X-100 shows no problems. If you see problems with an X-100 image, please send me the image. The e-mail is support@dl-c.com. You may need to use one of the image transfer services. also, I didn't test the E2, but please feel free to send me an E2 image as well.

Thank you,

Kiril

Apologies regarding Readout tool bug - it is not an illegal feature and has now been fixed for the next release.
