Other transformations when Layout window is opened

I noticed that when Layout window is opened, I can open mask transformation on an image window, but transformations are not available (grayed out in the menu; clicking on toolbar buttons brings up Layout window from the background). Is there something that I can do with the mask when the Layout window is open?

Mask is available during Layout as it is during any other transformation.

In the case of layout, you can create a mask for one of the images you are adding to the layout and then choose the mask in that image's Layout Panel dialog. For example, the mask can be used to define a transparency area for the image useful in stacking images.
