Bypass as Channel Image in Replace Channel

If I use Bypass output from another branch as a Channel Image in Replace Channel, PWP crashes silently.

To add: the input to Bypass was 8bit B/W and so was the output, it seemed. Replace Channel lists it, which means that it probably recognises it as an 8 bit image...
