I'm having trouble understanding how crop buttons, preview and margin values interact. The Shrink Crop Box to Match... seems particularly mysterious.
Perhaps the screenshot below may serve as an example: the crop box is extended to the full image, but large margins are reported. There are other unexpected occurrences, but maybe they are all related...
