Printer profile when printing black and white

Post by rmilewsk »

How do I specify a printer profile when I'm printing a black and white image?

Color Profiles can only be used with color images. So to use a profile with a black and white image, convert it to color using Transformation/Convert, (The appearance of the image will not change -- it will still look like a black and white image. However the image will now have three RGB channels which are required to apply a color transform.) You will now be able to select a color profile in the Print or Album dialogs.

If you are using a color profile to control the 'color' of the blacks, you might find that using Printer Curves will is simpler and require less experimentation to get the results you want. For more information see the Color Management white paper. (http://ftp2.bmtmicro.com/dlc/Color_Management.pdf) Printer Curves are discussed starting on page 31. (Note the paper refers to them as monitor curves, which was their old name.)
