Transparency ?

I have just picked up a .png of a logo I am compositing on a photo.

To the right I get an icon that says Transparency. What is it telling me? What could I do with it?

Underneath I created the mask that I need for my Composite. Was this something I could have done with the Transparency instead?

Yes, the transparency mask can be used as the starting point for a new mask, just like a mask from some other transformation. Then you could invert the mask if necessary.

Sorry Peter. I can't get it to do anything. I can't click on it and I never see it offered as a mask.

Am I missing something i might want to use?

I got the file -- if I do a File Open on it I get the image and its transparency mask.

If I then add a Brightness Curve transformation and click on the Mask box, I get the transparency mask as an option and can select it.

Don't know if this is the case, but most often I don't see masks because the mask pixel dimensions are not identical to image pixel dimensions.

Thanks Jonathan.

Yes, I now see what it will do.
