Feature request: User configurable toolbar

Post by AntonioShalders »

It would be great to be able to customize to toolbar.

I use the selective color tool a lot and the user experience having to dig into menus every time I need to use this and other features is a bit frustrating.

These two approaches may help:

There a configurable Favourites button (the one with a red heart icon). You can assign one or many (up to 32) transformations to it. To find out how it works and how to edit the list, click on it and then click on the question mark (help) to read short instructions for it in the Help file.

PWP has quite effective keyboard shortcuts system called Quick Pick. If you press a keyboard letter, say an 's' or a 'c', you will be presented with the list of transformations whose names start with an 's' or a 'c', as in Selective Color. You can continue typing e.g. 'se... or 'co...' to narrow it down to the name you wanted or just find and click on the corresponding button - the way the search works is fast and quite ingenious.

If you use a transformation often, it enters the ranking list and you can simply bring it up by pressing the space bar and typing the corresponding digit. Pressing the space bar displays all transformations that can be search further. As always, there is an excellent help article on it as well.

Well.... It's a so-so workaround. The user experience is not great. Can I live with this? Yes, but...
I sincerely would like to have a customizable toolbar.

While I understand the desire for a customizable tool bar, there are several reasons I have never implemented one. First, there is little room left for new tool bars at the top of the screen. Second, it would mean designing easily recognizable icons for each of roughly 150 transformations. Finally, it would lead to a more cluttered interface.

Well, explained now.

At least is it possible to make the fav items window non-modal ?

I'm happy with how it works now but, since it's being discussed, just an idea: the Favourites are presently arranged alphabetically. Would it be difficult to implement manual rearrangement so that they could be grouped 'thematically'? Or perhaps perhaps tagging them with an icon or a letter instead - e.g. G for geometry, C for Colour, G for gray etc.?

For the next release, I made the favorites window modeless and also added a Settings menu button so you have the option of leaving the favorites window open after selecting commands or, as before, closing the window after each one. The location of the favorites window is also preserved so you can position it in a preferred location and it will stay there, even across sessions. The settings menu leaves the door open for future options such as varying the number of favorites or sorting them in different ways (e.g. by frequency of use).

The non-modal Favourites window works great! A suggestion: would it make sense to make forward slash keyboard shortcut a toggle switch - when the Favourites window is open, pressing it would close it?

Currently, if you bring up favorites via the toolbar or keyboard, it brings the window to the top if it already exists, so you can always find it if it get buried.
