As Kiril suggests, if it is a K7, it might not be supported by the dcraw version that PW uses. (Only the newest dcraw supports the K7). I think you see one of the reasons to store your files as DNG here!

I convert my (Pentax) files to DNG when I import them into Adobe Lightroom, mainly because they become much smaller then. My camera can store them directly as DNG's, but then they are not compressed.
