pencil sketch

Every once in a while, I encounter an image for which I’d like to generate a corresponding pencil sketch. Usually, applying an edge transformation (Roberts (or sometimes Sobel), HSV) followed by converting to the negative is a good step in that direction. However, that approach tends to yield excessive line widths and densities at high contrast boundaries. I have tried both selective and nonselective approaches to modifying both the original image and the “pencil sketch”, but have not found a satisfactory PWP method.

Any suggestions?

Texture mask?

Have you tried a Texture mask? You can start by putting the white and black carat sliders near each other around a point where the histogram falls to near zero. Gray | Negative the mask.

This texture mask, the sliders admitting a wider region than described in previous post,

Thanks, Charles. I can see where that might work well. [Maybe it's time for me to upgrade both my computer and PWP (from 3.5):)]

Hi,

I tried to check out the photos using your links; on DPR website, got a message that the images are private... Help!?
